Inspired by the paintings of Duncan Brown, this project celebrates fourteen men from Lanarkshire who won the Victory Cross. This tribute recognises the sacrifices they made in defending our freedom against facism and aggression over the two great wars of the twentieth century. Like other projects tackled by the songwriters the songs are seen from a range of perspectives in understanding conflicts in which they fought and those who waited at home for their loved ones to return. The bravery of these men are caputured in songs and the artwork of Duncan in recalling those who fell in conflict and those who returned to build a better society that we all may live in relative freedom.
