This project recalled the dark days of the ‘Killing Time’ when many in Lanarkshire suffered under religious persecution for practising their faith in the 17th century. Many were to die on both sides of the political and religious divide that engulfed Scotland but this project sought to records songs of heroism, sacrifice, martydom and suffering in Lanarkshire where the Covenaters were strong in their opposition to the oppression of Kings who sought to impose Episcopal or Roman Catholic faith on Scotland’s national church. The ‘killing time’ eventually gave place to toleration and religious freedom trhoughout Scotland.
