Billy's Biography
Billy Stewart is a Singer/Songwriter from the Lanarkshire village of Overtown.
Billy’s songs reflect much of the inspiration from his surroundings when growing up in Overtown. The son of a Fruit Grower and Nurseyman he has
written many songs about this subject. Billy has also been influenced by the Coal mine which used to dominate the village and the Steelworks which surrounded the area. He wrote and recorded an album of songs with a few additions from other writers about the steel industry called STEEL AWAY.
Billy performed in the past with CAIRDIE’S BRIG and is a founder member of the popular folk band HAGGERDASH with whom he has recorded several CDs.
He is also an original member of The Lanarkshire Songwriters and has contributed songs to their CDs 14 GALLANT MEN, GOD’S ISLAND, GRASSMARKET BUTCHERS ,BLANTYRE TO BARCELONA, GENTLE GIANTS and the most recent SILENT CHORUS
